PitchLab Smartphone Apps 7 Northumberland Street Huddersfield, HD1 1RL ENGLAND United Kingdom
PitchLab Pro is a chromatic tuner that you can use to keep your guitars and other instruments in tune.
PitchLab Pro is chromatic tuner app with in-app purchases for additional instrument modes. Simple tuners may only support a single pitch or a subset of pitches. More complex tuners are referred to as chromatic because they support all 12 pitches, and that’s what you have here with PitchLab Pro.
PitchLab Pro is very convenient because as long as you have your phone with you, you have a chromatic tuner on hand. It’s also an excellent option for beginners or anyone who just can’t afford an actual tuner, which can be quite expensive. Comparatively, PitchLab Pro is much cheaper, and in the case of tuning your standard six-string guitar, it doesn’t cost anything at all.
The app is easy enough for novices to use but advanced enough for pros. It also offers a number of excellent features, including a split-screen mode that lets you have two distinct tuners on screen at the same time. PitchLab Pro also has a built-in power manager that ensures that the screen doesn’t dim or that your device doesn’t go into sleep mode while playing your instrument.
Although not provided by default, PitchLab Pro can support a number of instruments beyond just guitars. These include banjos, mandolins, ukuleles, violins and so on. It also provides a broad array of visualization modes. These include a stage tuner, chord matrix, pitch spectrogram, tone generator, strobe tuner and so forth. The app records audio, and you can use it not just to tune an instrument but to determine notes and chords in prerecorded music or in something that you’re humming.
A number of users have cited issues with customer support. Many of these apparently have to do with the original PitchLab Pro, which was a paid app, being replaced with this new PitchLab Pro, which is a free app but with in-app purchases. Some users are unhappy that they have to pay for features that they felt that they had already paid for and were unable to get relief through support.
That brings us to the issue of in-app purchases in general. You should recognize that they are present. Many users will never need to bother with them, but if you require a tuner for an instrument that is not a six-string guitar, you’ll need to purchase the appropriate mode. It isn’t a big issue since it’s certainly still less expensive than buying an actual instrument tuner. However, if you need multiple different modes, the cost can add up and certainly be more expensive that what the original PitchLab Pro cost.
